Prescription Ordering Process

Prescriptions can be requested by:

1.     using the NHS App on your smartphone or the NHS App Online via the Internet

o   find more information by visiting https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app or scan the QR code

o   or search for the NHS App in your iPhone or Android app store

2.     ticking the boxes for the medication required on the white paper prescription counterfoil, then:

o   putting it in one of the medication order boxes at either surgery

o   or handing it to staff at the dispensary window in either surgery

If you need a one-off prescription because you feel unwell, you should phone the Practice or click the Contact us online icon on this website to explain your request.

If you have recently had medication which is not on your repeat list and you want this again, write what you want in the online comment box or on the white paper counterfoil.

If your request is urgent, please mark it as urgent. If your order is early, please explain why.

Please order at least 5 working days before you need routine repeat medication. Some pharmacies may need longer, particularly for special items.

If you have any concerns about this, please phone the order line (phone option 5) leaving your name and phone number and we will return your call.

Dispensing

We dispense medicines to our patients from our surgeries in Illogan and Lanner and can provide home deliveries of medication for house-bound patients.

Getting your medication direct from the surgery improves the service we can provide to you, reduces the chance of problems with your medication and helps to support the surgery.

If you live more than a mile from your nearest chemist and are not currently using our dispensary, please ask.

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • filling in the white paper prescription counterfoil and handing it in or putting it in one of the post boxes at either site

You can also:

We do not take repeat prescription requests via email.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from your pharmacy five working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the NHS App or the website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP surgery
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Electronic Prescribing Service

This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service.

This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly saving you having to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

  • phone our pharmacist after 10am.
  • fill in our medication query form.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
