Change in Repeat Prescription Ordering Process
The way repeat prescriptions are ordered is changing. From the 1st of July 2024 all patients should order their own medication directly from the GP practice – instead of through community pharmacies.
This is to encourage patients to take control of their own medication, hopefully reducing wastage and cost to the NHS as well as time liaising between the practice and pharmacies with queries and requests.
Prescriptions can be requested via:
- NHS App – where you can order and track your requests
- Using the white slip on the right-hand side of your prescription (tick which items are required) or write down your name, date of birth and medications you require on a piece of paper and hand this in to Dispensary or use one of the boxes at the surgery.
- Answerphone – Call the surgery on 01209 842449 and press option 5 to order medication, this then allows you to leave an answerphone message. Please state your name, date of birth, the medication you require and your nominated pharmacy.
- Website – there is a link available for patients to request medication, we are in the process of setting up this facility via Accurx aswell.
- Telephone – for those unable to use the above services, Dispensary will assist you. Please call the surgery on 01209 842449 and press option 6 between the hours 11am-12pm and 3pm-4pm.
We understand, there are some patients who will not be able to order their own medicines, these patients may need to be assessed on an individual basis and we appreciate your support with this.
This change does not apply to patients who have blister packs or weekly/2 weekly collections that you currently manage for them, these patients have already been assessed as diminished capability and therefore, can continue to have managed repeats.
To clarify – we will no longer be accepting paper prescription requests via community pharmacies as of the 1st of July.
If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the surgery and speak to Dispensary – option 6, between 11am-12pm and 3pm-4pm or email prescriptions.harrismemorial@nhs.net
For future reference, any prescription related queries or requests from pharmacies/professionals, please use the prescriptions.harrismemorial@nhs.net
Thank you for your cooperation.
Kind regards,
Harris Memorial Surgery
